Description

Current antiparasitic drugs are typically optimised for human/animal efficacy, pharmacokinetics and safety, while their environmental fate is assessed only at a late stage, close to marketing authorisation, when redesign is no longer feasible. D15 reports on the Action's progress in moving biodegradability assessment upstream in the drug discovery pipeline, combining (i) in silico prediction of ready biodegradability (e.g. BIOWIN models, QSAR/machine-learning tools) with (ii) in vitro/experimental biodegradability and ecotoxicity testing, in line with OECD guidance and with the “green-by-design” and “benign-by-design” principles promoted by the Action. This work is jointly coordinated by WG1 (compound/database resources), WG2 (early-phase in vitro compound studies), and HG7 (Drug Chemistry advancements in biodegradability including prediction).

COST
What is COST?

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding agency for research and innovation networks. The COST ACTIONS help connect research initiatives across Europe and enable scientists to grow their ideas by sharing them with their peers. This boosts their research, career and innovation.
